Ambassadors

Well-known and less well-known ambassadors are committed to the mission of the Máxima: to cure every child with cancer with optimal quality of life. They too would like our children to be able to realize their dreams, just as they have. We are proud and grateful for the sincere involvement and great contribution of our wonderful ambassadors.

Anita Meyer

“I am honored that I may contribute as an ambassador to the Princess Máxima Center. I care deeply about this specialized pediatric oncology center. When you have to stay in this hospital, that is of course an incredibly difficult time. Not only for the child who is ill, but also for siblings and (grand)parents. A great deal of money is still needed for research and to improve the quality of life for children with cancer now and in the future. With, of course, the goal that as few children as possible will die from cancer.”

Bas Smit

“Children and cancer is so unfair. One in four dies as a result of this terrible disease and that cannot and must not be the case. That is why, as an ambassador of the Princess Máxima Center, I am happy to do my part by committing myself to the fullest. Through my social media, I hope for even more name recognition, and with special actions I raise donations from all over the country. This awareness is incredibly important because only with everyone’s support can the Máxima achieve its mission: to cure every child with cancer with optimal quality of life.”

Chantal Bles

“I became an ambassador because unfortunately we ourselves walked around in the Princess Máxima Center with our daughter for a while. Of course I would have preferred that differently, but at the same time I was always aware and felt that if you have to go through it anyway, then here! The Máxima showed us what a warm bath you can end up in, even though the world feels so cold at that moment. We wish this for every other family with a child with cancer. That is why we would like to do our part and, as far as we can, show the families that they are not alone in this.”

Chantal Janzen

“Since the opening in 2018, I have been closely involved with the Princess Máxima Center and I have learned how important the work of the doctors, researchers and nurses is. They dedicate themselves daily with so much love to curing all children with cancer, with optimal quality of life. As an ambassador, I am happy to be able to contribute something to the treatment of and research into childhood cancer. I am happy to commit myself to raising as much money as possible, which unfortunately is still very much needed. Every little bit helps and it goes to such an incredibly good cause.”

Dafne Schippers

“I was touched by the passion of so many people involved in the Princess Máxima Center to fight the terrible disease cancer in children forever and to ensure that every child can be cured in the future. In my connection with the Máxima, I hope to contribute to attention and thus to the mission of the Princess Máxima Center. And with my visits to promote the importance of exercise for the children and to provide some distraction and happy faces.”

Jacques Vriens

“When I was still the teacher of eighth grade, Anke was in my class. She got leukemia. My eighth grade class and I hoped she would get better, but unfortunately that was not the case. After Anke had died, I very much wanted to write a book about this funny and tough girl, but I found it difficult. Only after seven years did I write: Eighth Graders Don’t Cry. Now I read aloud to the children in the Princess Máxima Center. I have great admiration for all the people there, but also for the parents and of course for the children themselves. That is why I find it an honor to be an ambassador of the Máxima.”

Maan de Steenwinkel

“When I first came to the Princess Máxima Center, I saw children, just a bit younger than I am, who had to fight for their lives. And everything I can contribute to make the fighting a bit more bearable and to conjure up a smile on their faces so that for a moment the children can forget that they are ill, is already so valuable to me. I want to commit myself to the children, for their health through music and personal attention; then I go by the beds to give a hug and chat for a while. I hope that the doctors and researchers can make many steps forward in the coming years and put an end to the disease.”

Robert Doornbos

“As the father of a wonderful daughter who was treated in the Máxima (and who fortunately is doing very well), I know better than anyone how important the Princess Máxima Center is, because one in four children still dies as a result of this terrible disease. My wife and I are of course grateful to the Máxima every day and that is why we are happy to commit ourselves as ambassadors in order to make a contribution to the mission of the Máxima: to cure every child with cancer, with optimal quality of life.”

Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano

“It is heartbreaking to see how the lives of young kids with cancer are turned upside down by this terrible disease. By committing ourselves to the Princess Máxima Center, we hope, also with our music, to be able to contribute to making all hospital visits and stays a bit more bearable.”

Martin Garrix

“I think it is fantastic what the Princess Máxima Center does for children with cancer. I know that worldwide there are still so many children who die from this disease. That is why I would like to contribute to the mission of the Máxima to cure every child with cancer, with the best possible quality of life. It is an honor to be part of an organization that plays such an important role in the lives of these children.”

Parent Ambassador

Parents of children who are treated at the Máxima hold a special place within the Foundation. Their strength and perseverance are a source of inspiration. Some of them are wholeheartedly committed to the mission of the Máxima: to cure every child with cancer, with optimal quality of life. Their stories put a face to our mission and help us reach more people and create awareness. Their support is indispensable, and we therefore proudly call them ‘parent ambassador’.

Jeroen van Veen

“I want to show all children and parents in the Máxima that they are not alone. That inspired me to a 365-day sponsored running campaign in 2023–2024, with which I raised over €2.2 million for the Máxima with all of the Netherlands. Now I am committed as a proud parent ambassador to that important mission: to cure every child with cancer, with optimal quality of life. With my son Kasper, I spent a lot of time in the Máxima. Despite the sadness of losing him, he showed me how beautiful life is. I now use that joy of life as a parent ambassador.”
